Rethinking Education

This publication represents the first of a series of books that will profile some of the forward thinking work being undertaken by leading education researchers and policy experts focused on transforming the face of public education and the future of Alberta.

There are efforts taking place to transform education through what has become known as the Global Educational Reform Movement (GERM). This book offers a different perspective from the usual focus on competition, standardized curriculum and high stakes testing and a focus on learning analytics. It takes the view that teaching and teachers at the level of the school need to be empowered and enabled to lead change. It outlines approaches to teaching, learning, curriculum, accountability and governance which should inform change efforts around the world.
